"How lucky can one get!' I.e 'How stupid can I be!'

WHAT!!?!! No acid tongue, no snide remarks? If I had not been sitting down, I would have fallen over. Is this really the same guy writing this? Are you sure you wrote this Konk, or do you have a'nice' twin tucked away somewhere? It seems to me you appreciate the beauty around you more than you do the beauty within your fellow beings. However, it was nice to see a softer, more sensitve side of the otherwise oh so cynical Konk. Thank you for sharing you experience, you dexcribed it so vividly, I could almost see it. Yes France is beautiful (and vast) I have only been through France a few times . When I was about 20, my sister and i drove our very old Deux Cheveaux to the south of France for a holiday in the sun, and we took a 'wrong' turn (or right) and we ended up driving through the mountains, which was quite a feat (coming from a flat country like the Netherlands) and a wonderful adventure. The mountains were amazing, the villages picturesque and the people so kind and patient to us as we practised our schoolfrench on them. We stayed overnight in a wee inn and were amazed that my orange juice was more expensive than my sister's glass of wine! In the Netherlands I lived with one leg in the city and the other leg in the forest where i spent all my holidays in my family's littel wooden cottage which had no running water or electricity and a 'londrop' for a toilet. It was fantastic! "Cuture' and history in the city and the simplicity and relative remoteness of the forest. How lucky can one get! Once a fortnight I drive 50km north to Taupo, along lake Taupo (Maori call it Taupo Moana which means Taupo Sea as the lake is so big). The drive is stunning. Coming back and going down the Hatepe Hill, you get 'hit' by a sudden panoramic view of the lake which moves along with you as the road curves. Like you said in your story Konk: breathtaking. I was in the South Island of NZ recently and the scenery there is even more awe-inspiring! France has a LOT of castles, (France has been an empire after all, but let's not forget who built these magnificent buildings, not the rich owners....) and I happen the have seen a couple when I was in France in June. I came into your country by train and as overwhelmed by the vastness of you plains. I had forgotten how big and beautiful you country is, I wil have to come back one day soon and do some exploring!!!
